QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS.
Please find answers to frequently asked questions about the BMW iX3.
What electrical range does the BMW iX3 have?
The BMW iX3 achieves a range of up to 460 km*. As is the case for a vehicle with a conventional drivetrain, driving style also affects the range in an electric car. As a general rule, an anticipatory, relaxed and uniform style of driving optimises your range. During recuperation, that means whenever you lift your foot from the accelerator pedal, kinetic energy is converted into electrical energy and fed into the battery – and as a result you gain further kilometres in range.
*The fuel/electric power consumption and operating range figures have been calculated using the WLTP measuring technique for EU homologation.
What happens if my navigation destination is outside the electrical range?
If your navigation destination is outside of the electric range, the smart digital services of BMW Connected Charging provide help. As soon as a navigation destination outside of your electric range is entered, public charging stations along the route are displayed and added directly as stops on your scheduled route . A circle indicates the range displayed on the navigation map.
Where can I find the technical data for the BMW iX3?
You will find all the technical data for the BMW iX3 at a glance under the “Technical data” tab at the very top of the page. You will also find additional notes on the electricity consumption and CO2 emissions for the BMW iX3 further down on this page.

What is the difference between charging with alternating current (AC), direct current (DC) and a high-power charging station (HPC)?
The difference between charging with alternating current (AC), direct current (DC) and a high-power charging station (HPC) lies mainly in the duration of the charging operation. The time taken to charge electric vehicles (depending on the cable or charging station) takes longer with alternating current (AC), while direct current (DC) is significantly faster. Ultra-fast charging with direct current (DC) is possible with a high-power charging station (HPC), such as those operated by our partner IONITY in Europe. There, for example, the battery of a BMW iX3 with a maximum charging capacity of up to 150 kW is charged from 0% to 80% in only 34 minutes – the maximum vehicle charging capacity in each case depends on the market-specific infrastructure. Please note that in the case of DC and HPC charging, you should keep holding the plug on the vehicle until it locks in place. In this way, you can ensure that the charging operation will start without any problems.
How do I get access to the public charging?
You gain access to public charging and the world of BMW Charging as you receive your electric BMW: with your personal BMW Charging Card. All you now have to do is log in with your BMW ID to www.bmw-charging.com, conclude a charging contract and activate your BMW Charging Card. Within 24 hours, the extensive, nationwide public network will be activated for you, and you can start charging! Your charging operations are booked easily and conveniently via BMW Charging. As part of the monthly billing, you receive an overall statement detailing all charging operations. You can choose to receive your invoice via the online portal, via e-mail or by mail.
You should also remember to secure your additional local tariff for high-power charging* for your BMW iX3 right away. Via BMW Charging, this will then give you access in Europe, for example, to the IONITY network and to charging with the additional IONITY tariff at an exclusive preferential price.*Offer varies according to the market.
What is the ecological balance sheet of the BMW iX3?
At the BMW Group, every electrified model has to demonstrate clearly superior environmental performance – from procurement of raw materials to the supply chain, production, use phase and recycling – over a comparable conventionally powered vehicle. The BMW iX3 outperforms the diesel-powered BMW X3 xDrive 20d by more than 30 per cent when drawing on average European power in the use phase and roughly 60 per cent when exclusively green energy is sourced.
The extensive use of secondary raw materials in the manufacture of aluminium castings and thermoplastics, the absence of rare earths thanks to an innovative design for the electric motor and the across-the-board use of renewable energy in the production of the new BMW iX3 have also had a positive effect on the car’s environmental footprint. The analysis and conclusions of the environmental assessment for the iX3 – spanning the full value chain and the vehicle’s entire lifecycle – will be verified and certified by an independent testing institute by the time production begins.
The first all-electric Sports Activity Vehicle therefore sets new standards in its class when it comes to efficiency and range, weight minimisation, the sparing use of raw materials and the lowering of CO2 emissions throughout the product lifecycle.
